The article analyzes the musical motives, as well as the mentions of musical instruments in Turgenev's prose. The purpose of this work is a cultural analysis of the context of «musical fragments» of I.S. Turgenev's prose. Musical preferences are the subject of lively disputes of Turgenev's characters. Musical instruments are used as metaphorical figures in Turgenev’s work which indicates the «musicality» of the writer's thinking.
