Abstract
Based on a large corpus from the A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum, this study analyzes pre-revolutionary theatre posters of a charitable orientation as a source for exploring urban
everyday life. Such posters reflected practices of collective engagement in addressing social issues. The research focuses on the main directions of philanthropy, the urban spaces that served as venues for performances by both amateur and professional troupes, as well as the repertoire. Selected examples illustrate the amounts that could be raised by the organizers of charitable productions.
