The article reveals the reasons for the scientific interest in the phenomenon of urban space / city. The author traces the historiography of this issue from the middle of the 19th century to the present day, highlighting the main areas of research. In conclusion, it is concluded that modern works rely on interdisciplinarity in the study of urban space, considering it as a dynamic system.
