The article is devoted to the problem of differentiation of classical and mass literature in the literary hierarchy. The aim of the study is a comparative analysis of narrative strategies that are characteristic
of both these types of literature. The conclusion is made about the difficulty of identifying a narrative strategy peculiar exclusively to classics or only to mass literature. The goals of using such narrative strategies as adventurousness, “dialogicity” and demonstrative literariness in a particular work may differ significantly.
