Individual prognostic sign (omen): Structure and relations with other individual signs

Semenova S.Yu.

Abstract

Individual spontaneous signs named by the author as individual omens are under consideration. The structure of the sign above is described from the point of view of the signifier-signified dichotomy. The signifier includes two types of situations, namely, a current one and a motivating one. The relation between the two types of situations can be characterized as a semiotic one; it usually has features of an index, but it is sometimes associated with an icon. The signified in some cases makes symbolization of the motivating situation participants. A number of associations between the individual omen and other kinds of individual signs are presented in the paper.
