Abstract
The article deals with lexemes-markers of social status, titles,
Victorian manners and behavior, which complement the concept of Victorian morality, which is an important cultural phenomenon in the history of Great Britain. The realist literature of the second half of the 19th century served as the material for the study. The frequency and functions of the names of titled persons are considered.
It is concluded that the lexemes-markers of the characters' social position nominate both the positive aspects of Victorian morality and the negative ones immanently contained in these lexemes. The still relevant morality of noble gentlemen and ladies, captured in the novels of the 19th century in all its complex duality, constitutes a huge layer of the national culture of Great Britain.
