The heritage of the city in laymen stories: oral historians’ respondents, bloggers, video streamers and participants in chats

Bouchev A.B.

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the memoir discourse about the city in the Internet. Electronic ego documents on Moscow sites are under study. In blogs, commentaries to blogs, chats, etc. the task is to consider their specifics and difference from traditional ego documents. The paper looks upon general and special characteristics in comparison with tourist discourse (the latter is characterized by marketing intention plus fewer personal experiences, less subjectivity of the author). We also discuss the difference between the material under study and texts of a local history nature (these texts are characterized by an almost complete absence of subjectivity and professionalism of authorship). The main method in the paper is the method of interpreting microtexts in blogs. For example, the article highlights various authorial intentions when writing electronic ego-documents – the desire to share the vanishing details of everyday life, local toponymy, folklore, give assessments, and feel sorry about the bygone past. Compared to traditional texts, illustrative is the impressionism of the authors of electronic texts, their focus on finding an interlocutor, and cross-border nature are characteristics of multimedia and other features provided by the Internet environment.
