The article examines the characteristic features of the texts of
the Spanish writer-journalist Manuel Vázquez Montalbán (1939–2003). The theme of historical memory is presented in most of the publicist’s works. The articles of the author's column are the result of a deliberate mixture of literary and journalistic genres. The narrative strategies used by the author are aimed at developing in the reader a balanced, critical view of the events of the past and present. The position of an intellectual journalist is stated, whose task is to interpret the multifaceted reality, analyze the social conflicts of the past in order to avoid their repetition in the future.
