The representation of freedom as a symbol of an abstract idea
and a real socio-political and cultural phenomenon is the most difficult task of art. A significant problem is the symbolic reproducibility of such an image in different historical eras. The article examines the technical and semantic reproducibility of the central image of the painting “Freedom leading the People” by Eugéne Delacroix in contemporary art using examples of works by Eric Bulatov, Yue Minjun, Pascal Boyar (Pboy). The problem of symbolic reproducibility is conceptualized within the framework of the concepts of pastiche in contemporary art, as well as as a meme in the space of current network media practices.
