Abstract
The article examines the problem of dating “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign” in the context of the peculiarities of the poetics of the monument. It is shown that the work is not a “protocol” of historical events and it uses epic hyperbolization. Hypotheses about allusions in “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign” to the events of the 1190s are considered and their inconsistency is proven. Based on the imperative modality of calls to princes, the idea of creating a monument no later than the beginning of October 1187, before the death of Yaroslav Galitsky, is substantiated.
