Cemetery as an Object of Visit: Turning into a Museum, Routes and Practices

Abstract
The authors consider the cemetery not only as a space of status hierarchies and a symbol of social integration, but also as a space of emergence. On this methodological platform, the authors analyze the functional repertoire of the oldest cemetery in Kaluga. The processes of official and spontaneous museification stimulate alternative and deviant practices of its use. The contradiction between the mourning nature and the functions of transit, recreation and leisure threatens the preservation of cultural heritage.
