A. Bitov's novel “Pushkin's House” and S. Dovlatov's story “The Reserve”, written approximately in the same period of time, despite their dissimilarities, raise the urgent problem of memorializing of an outstanding personality in modern conditions, perpetuating its role and significance in history and culture on the example of the life and work of A.S. Pushkin, the 225th anniversary of the whose birthday is celebrated in 2024. The authors of the article, having analyzed the texts of two works, have come to the conclusion that the methods used by the researchers of the work of an outstanding personality, as well as the conclusions about its role in history and culture, often turn out to be the opposite of what is expected. The authors see this as a disadvantage and limitations of the existing methods for the preservation of national heritage and museumification in general.
