The first section of this essay is devoted to the musical culture of Guangdong Province, while the second focuses on the musical culture of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Both parts provide an overview of the main musical genres (musical drama, traditional instrumental music, musical storytelling and folklore). A brief overview of the history of local musical educational institutions and traditional and symphonic orchestras is also provided.
