The article is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of mass media as a factor determining features and perspectives of the development of mass culture at the stage of informational civilization. The author uses comparative-historical and typological methods and demonstrates the development of mass media at the stage of industrial civilization and informational civilization, analyzing the degree of influence of mass media on mass culture in both eras. According to the conclusion of the
article, electronic media can present new opportunities for the revival of
elite culture, while mass culture will go into the background.
