Orientalism and the “Russian style” in the musical traditionof Western Europe. The image of the “Russian“in the opera ”Siberia

Abstract

Oriental and, in particular, Russian subjects and related images have often been the subject of interest in European art. The distant andincomprehensible “Eastern” and “Russian” are interpreted by Europe assomething mysterious and alien. The representation of this different andincomprehensible world in European musical culture is conceptually andmethodologically based on certain rules. The article analyzes the orientalistrepresentation of the “Russian” in the musical works of Western composers.
